Wind, waterfalls & Viking lodge wedding. This is the story of Patrick & Kristen's wedding day.
Patrick & Kristen’s wedding day started in the capital of Iceland: Reykjavik. They had rented a place with a view over Hallgrímskirkja church, iconic Reykjavik landmark you will see in photos of our charming city. This is where the getting ready was happening and Nína from Nordic hair & beauty made sure Kristen’s look would stand tall in the face of the Icelandic weather forces.
The first look is something that we love to organise with our couples at the beginning of their wedding day, this is many people's absolute favourite tap on the shoulder of all times. P&K had their first look with the iconic Hallgrimskirkja church as their backdrop.
As Iceland Wedding planners there isn’t a day where we aren’t thinking on our feet reacting quickly to situations that arise and of course a lot of them have to do with the queen herself, mother nature. This wedding was no exception. September 25th, the Icelandic fall was upon us with it’s drama and unpredictable weather. Many different plans had been concocted in the Pink Iceland office and of course when you gather 7 wedding planners in an office for a status meeting about Patrick and Kristen’s day, you are going to get a lot of great ideas.
The final decision, the best one for the day we were having was to switch the programme around. Originally we had planned for their 70 guests to join them for a South Shore Adventure and them witnessing the ceremony at a Private Iceland Waterfall but that would not have been enjoyable. So we switched things around. The adventurous couple was definitely down for some windy and rainy adventures for their wedding photo shoot with Iceland Wedding photographers Styrmir & Heiðdís
The South Shore of Iceland is famous for it’s Black Beaches & breath taking waterfalls, that’s where we were heading!
An intimate moment at a private waterfall where the couple got to be just the two of them, walking by the river, getting close to the waterfall and then finding a beautiful canyon for some hiking and stunning views.
The famous, awe inspiring Skógafoss waterfall never fails to impress. We love the look on our couples faces when we walk with them towards the waterfall and it just dawns on them how big and powerful it really is. It’s also a photographers favourite, for sure. With it being one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland of course it gets crowded but then it’s all about the right balance of patience and being just a tad but pushy. Don’t worry, we’ll handle that part for you.
There are many Black beaches on the South Shore, the one you have probably heard off is Reynisfjara but there are others more private and secluded and we wanted Patrick and Kristen to have that experience, the sand, sea, mountain views and the vastness in the wind was really powerful. The Pink Iceland puffy jackets really came to the rescue like many times before and kept them warm between locations and angle changes.
Now the epic wedding photos were done and it was time to head back, join the group of guests and get this couple married!
As we mentioned earlier the plan was to have the wedding ceremony by a Private waterfall on the South Shore but due to weather the Wedding planning team had to think quick and change locations.
The reception had already been planned in a legendary Icelandic venue, A Viking Lodge just 45 minutes from Reykjavik. We love the lodge which name is Ingólfsskáli a lot and it has before served as a great ceremony spot, not only as plan B, people often choose it as their plan A as it’s very in the ‘get married in Iceland’ theme.
Hair and makeup artist Nina was at the Viking lodge to do touch ups after a long day in the Icelandic weather forces
Our amazing talented florist Þórdís arrived early to the Viking lodge, not only to decorate for the reception but also to put together florals for the ceremony that would now be happening on the stage. You can see for yourselves, she did an amazing job.
Their wedding group was excited as they arrived ready to see the darlings couple get married, it’s obvious from their expression and happy tears.
Hugs and kisses awaited the bride and groom after the heartfelt ceremony by Árni Gretar from Siðmennt the Humanist association. The Viking lodge wedding reception continued with delicious dinner in the beautifully decorated room.
Dancing into the night and also running outside to enjoy a glimpse of the Northern Lights was a fitting ending to a legendary Iceland Wedding day.
The Pink Iceland team is always happy and honoured when our amazing couples choose us to be their Iceland Wedding planners and we want to thank you Kristen & Patrick for entrusting us with your Iceland Wedding.
