Ice cave Wedding in Iceland

When this amazing couple found out about the ice cave in Langjokull in fall of 2021 they added it to their bucket list immediately and when they started planning their Iceland wedding they thought “hey maybe we can get married in that ice cave” and even though there were hurdles, hoops to jump through and snowstorms to wait out luckily they had chosen Iceland Wedding planner Pink Iceland to plan their wedding and they were willing and able to arrange everything to make their Iceland wedding dreams come true. Ashley and Zac were the first people to get married in this newly discovered Iceland Ice Cave.

A few days before their wedding there were a couple of heavy snow storms in Iceland. They were forced to postpone their wedding a few days because of the bad weather.

Thankfully the couple who have already traveled to Iceland a couple of times and were familiar with the saying „ Þetta reddast“ which can be translated to „Everything will work itself out“ which it did. Two days later the storm had passed and the conditions to go to the glacier were perfect. The groom had even had the saying sewed into his suits before the wedding

The bride was able to get her hair and makeup done and travel from Gullfoss with a giant 8-wheeled super jeep from Sleipnir tours to the glacier base camp, then snowmobiles (this was the first time snowmobiling for the both of them) the last 14 km to the ice cave with their guide, the wedding planner and the officiant, trekked in the snow with the wedding dress, bouquet, vail, jewelry and suit. Once we had trekked through knee deep snow, climbed snow steps carved in the glacier and got in the cave the pop up tent was pulled out and the changing of garments began! It was a drastic switch from the helmets, goggles, and snowsuits to their beautiful dress & suit. Luckily their wedding planning team had experience with exactly this type of situation as the last time they helped a couple change in the middle of nowhere they came up with a great system so nothing would be lost in a glacier crevasse and it would go smoothly when they had to change again after the ceremony.

They had rented the ice cave privately to make sure they would have the intimate ceremony they dreamed about. The ceremony was beautiful and the cave was stunning. After the ceremony the couple celebrated with hot chocolate, champagne, and traditional Icelandic Kleinur to share.

Would you be able to handle it if you saw your wedding dress and suit among other things strapped to the back of a snowmobile about to ride over a glacier for some time?

Who are these adventurous souls that didn't hesitate jumping on a snowmobile, trekking on a glacier to the first ever couple to get married in this incredible newly discovered glacier cave?

In their own words:

'Iceland is magical. It’s a completely surreal, insanely diverse and beautiful environment. It’s people, culture, and community are all contributors to why we hope to live there one day. Whenever we get asked we say it’s a feeling, we feel drawn there and whenever we land in Reykjavik we feel as if we are home.

We are naturally adventurous people and enjoy being outdoors, especially exploring when we travel. We knew that we wouldn’t be married indoors and wanted a special location in Iceland specifically. Pink Iceland made that dream come true. The entire day was absolutely magical!'

The couple had an amazing Iceland Wedding photographer, Kristín María who not only drove herself and Heiðrún, Pink Icleand wedding planner up to the glacier cave on a snowmobile but captured the entire glacier cave wedding and the photos came out just as they dreamed. Kristín mentioned that this ice cave wedding was probably her most challenging and rewarding one.

After dismounting the snowmobiles the bride and groom, Pink Iceland wedding planners, Arni the Iceland Humanist wedding celebrant, Kristín María photographer and the Sleipnir crew trekked in knee deep snow to the opening of the glacier cave. As we were trekking we were imagining how it must have felt discovering this incredible glacier cave in Langjökull.

We can't but brag a little bit and share with our wonderful readers what A&Z thought of the service they received from Pink Iceland when planning their Iceland elopement - take it away:

'A million thanks to you and the Pink Iceland team for all of the help, coordination, logistics, kindness, hospitality the list goes on. There is so much that goes into planning these special events behind the scenes that we don’t even know and we are eternally grateful to you all for creating magic and helping out the best plan in place for us and our guests. They were so excited, happy, and impressed by everyone and everything. It was all of their first time in Iceland and what an adventure it was!!

My now husband and I don’t even know how to thank you all enough for what you do and for all of your help. You feel like a best friend that I just met and you know exactly what I need before I needed it. You always put us first which was hard for me to do at times (being a people pleaser). Our third trip to iceland was absolutely magical as it always is, but it has truly been special.

If you’re questioning on whether or not to have a wedding planner the answer is 1,000% yes! Work with Heidrun she’s incredible and makes your dream come true! Professional, experienced, and you can fully trust them to make the best choice for you and guests while keeping safety in mind.

Having a planner was the best gift to myself as a bride to actually relax and have full confidence that my guests and legalities are going to be more than taken care of.'
