All of Pink Iceland weddings are unique experiences and it’s a beautiful journey going through the options with our couples finding the perfect locations for them. K & J wanted a personal, unforgettable adventure, which led them to a Reykjavík-based wedding celebration! Planning this wedding was an absolute joy and the various elements of the newlywed’s personalities came together beautifully.
For this Reykjavík celebration, the couple chose the two most notable landmarks the city has to offer; Hallgrímskirkja church and Harpa music & concert center!
After the couple got ready separately we took them to Harpa (their reception venue) for first look photos and family portraits, the beautiful lighting of that building made sure all pictures came out bright and joyful. After that, the couple, planner, videographer, and photographer went on a short stroll for pictures around the Reykjavík city center. We stopped at wall art, yellow lighthouses, and crooked streets for short romantic moments.
The ceremony took place in the gorgeous Hallgrímskirkja, which overlooks the entire center of Reykjavík. The dramatic rock formations on the outside and the high ceilings inside created an elegant atmosphere which was broken up with a solo dance party by the flower man who danced down the aisle with flower petals in a holographic fanny pack! The bride decided on a hand-painted gown and all of her bridesmaids wore white, a little twist on tradition. The bride and groom were married by the lovely Hildur Björk, and a pinky swear ceremony was incorporated into the I do’s. As the ceremony came to an end the guests gathered outside the church and blew thousands of bubbles as the happy couple danced their way out!
Everyone was of course greeted with sparkling wine by the Pink Iceland team at the church entrance. The only logical thing to do now? A sparkling wine parade down the streets of Reykjavík! The entire group walked down Skólavörðustígur eventually coming to Rainbow street where the Pink team had set up a top-up station.
The parade ended at the iconic Harpa, the reception venue. The two-story dining and dancing venue had been decorated with various items special to K&J like a cutout of their super cute dog, temporary tattoos, pictures of loved ones, and an interactive crossword. One corner of the venue had been set up in an extra special way to honor the groom’s stepfather: months earlier the bride approached Glóey (Pink Iceland wedding planner) about finding vintage arcade games, especially pinball machines, and after weeks of searching they were finally found! This did not only look cool and provide great entertainment but had a sentimental value that shone through.
